Garnet - A Montana Ghost Town
Monte Dolack
28" x 24"
2003
This piece portrays Garnet Ghost Town, in western Montana which was a mining town, but was abandoned in the early 1900s. It was named for the semi-precious gem called the garnet, which was the first item mined in the town. As many as 1,000 people lived here in its heyday-the late 1800s. It was abandoned when the gold ran out. In 1912, half of the town was destroyed in a fire, and never rebuilt. It is now preserved by the B.L.M.
